Managing multiple ontologies in a virtual breeding environment context

Authors
Simoes, D; Ferreira, H; Soares, AL;

Publication
International Journal of Services and Operations Management

Abstract
This paper proposes a new method to manage the use of ontologies in the context of Virtual Organisations Breeding Environments (VBEs). The research focuses on the dissolution phase of a Virtual Enterprise (VE), where ontology decomposition techniques are used to enrich the ontology library. First, an overview of the process used and the Ontology Library System (OLS) adopted are described. Then, the ontologies' ranking and classification method are described, explaining a set of metrics inspired by social network approaches. Finally, the composition method used to construct a global ontology and the decomposition algorithm implemented to segment an ontology are presented. Copyright © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Establishing the Foundation of Collaborative Networks

Abstract
This paper proposes a new method for managing the use of ontologies in the context of a Virtual Breeding Environment. This research work focus is on the dissolution phase of a Virtual Enterprise or Collaborative Network, where ontology segmentation technique are user to enrich the VBE's ontology libray. Firstly, an overview of the process of ontology composition and decomposition is given and the ontology library system adopted described. Then, the ontologies' ranking and classification method is described, explaining a set of metrics inspired in social network approaches. Finally, the results of preliminary tests are discussed.

ON THE MOVE TO MEANINGFUL INTERNET SYSTEMS 2006: OTM 2006 WORKSHOPS, PT 1, PROCEEDINGS

Abstract
This paper presents a case in the development of a knowledge community support system in the context of an industrial association group in the construction sector. This system is a result of the Know-Construct project which aims at providing association sponsored SME communities of the construction sector with a sophisticated information management platform and community building tools for knowledge sharing. The paper begins by characterizing the so-called construction industry knowledge community. The Know-Construct system concept and the its general architecture are described, focusing on the semantic resources, in particular the ontologies structure. The final part of the paper depicts the approach to the actual introduction of the system in the community. An action-research approach was planned to obtain research results regarding the social acceptance of semantic resources such as the ontologies and technical classifications used in system.

BALANCED AUTOMATION SYSTEMS II: IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES FOR ANTHROPOCENTRIC MANUFACTURING

Abstract
This paper presents a reference position on the relation between manufacturing systems and work organisation strategies, It raises some issues and advances a methodological framework in the development of information/manufacturing systems and work organisation design methods. as to reach a balanced influence of the technology, organisation and people aspects in Complex Manufacturing Environments (CME). In this sense it is not presenting research results but, with the underlying goal of implementing a laboratory environment for the study of technical and or organisational developmental aspects of CMEs, there are overviewed the R&D requirements for an interdisciplinary approach involving Computer and Social Sciences. The main scientific areas analysed are Enterprise Integration and Work Organisation, focusing on the methodological aspects of each one.

INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS FOR MANUFACTURING: MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS AND VIRTUAL ORGANIZATION

Abstract
This paper introduces a conceptual modelling approach for supporting the requirements analysis and specification of information systems according to technical and socio-organisational perspectives, particularly in manufacturing enterprises. The approach is based in the so-called Techno-Organisational Development Ontologies that act as a conceptual core for perspectives mediation. A case study based on semi-conductor virtual enterprises is presented illustrating the validity of the approach.

Network-Centric Collaboration and Supporting Frameworks

Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the of Business Process Modelling field focusing on the definition of the Inter-Organizational Business Processes from both a high-level modelling perspective and a technological one. We used a conceptual maps' approach in order to clarify all the fundamental concepts that surround these two fields. We will present the two conceptual maps we have achieved through the help of a web-based tool for corpus linguistics and knowledge engineering named Corpografo and using the IHMC Cmaps Toolsfor the design of the Conceptual maps.
