E-MANUFACTURING: BUSINESS PARADIGMS AND SUPPORTING TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract
This paper proposes a social networking perspective on the e-manufacturing area. A short justification of the social network-perspective as applied to manufacturing organizations is made, focusing on methods and theoretical approaches. Then, it is speculated how social networking can be a paradigm for the management of networks of manufacturing enterprises. The management relationship (fostering collaboration and cooperation) and their support through new information systems architectures are the key issues. Finally, some research directions are discussed, focussing on new engineering paradigms.

VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES AND COLLABORATIVE NETWORKS

Abstract
This paper reviews relevant aspects of the formation and dissolution of interorganizational networks (ION) aiming at define requirements for systems managing knowledge networks in such environments. Firstly, the concept of networking and virtual organizing is reviewed. Then a major work on formation of ION is analysed and some conclusions are drawn regarding the design of ION. Finally, the requirements for knowledge management systems in the formation and dissolution of ION are discussed.

ENTERPRISE INFORMATION SYSTEMS III

Abstract
This paper describes the methods and experiences of developing of an information system in an industrial innovation context. The case analysed respects to a system supporting quality management tasks of working teams in industrial companies, developed within a research & development EU funded project. The initial concept of the system is described first, followed by the way how requirements where elicited and structured and the system specified. Next, design and prototyping are analysed, detailing die end-users evaluation approach. Conclusions are drawn on the opportunities and difficulties od R&D involving industrial enterprises.

A social and organisational ontological foundation for enterprise modelling

Authors

MANUFACTURING, MODELING, MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL, PROCEEDINGS

Abstract
This paper presents a conceptual foundation for enterprise modelling from the social and organisational viewpoints. First, a method for the qualitative evaluation of enterprise modelling methods according to those viewpoints is presented. Next, the proposed approach of methodological mediation through a social and organisational conceptual core is outlined, and its implementation using the so called ontological engineering explained. AUTOMATED SYSTEMS BASED ON HUMAN SKILL 2000: JOINT DESIGN OF TECHNOLOGY AND ORGANISATION

Abstract
This paper gives an overview of a trans-european research and development project where a manufacturing team information system was developed. The focus is on the process of requirements analysis and specification, and on the prototype evaluation. Special emphasis is given to the effectiveness of the users involvement in the process. GLOBALIZATION OF MANUFACTURING IN THE DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS ERA OF THE 21ST CENTURY: INNOVATION, AGILITY, AND THE VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE

Abstract
This paper introduces the requirements for information systems supporting team work in manufacturing, under a Total Quality Management approach. The analysis and specification phases of a system in this category is described as well as the basic requirements for extending it beyond local shop-floors, towards networked enterprises.
