Uncertainty Based Multi-Robot Cooperative Triangulation

Authors

ROBOCUP 2014: ROBOT WORLD CUP XVIII

Abstract
The paper presents a multi-robot cooperative framework to estimate the 3D position of dynamic targets, based on bearing-only vision measurements. The uncertainty of the observation provided by each robot equipped with a bearing-only vision system is effectively addressed for cooperative triangulation purposes by weighing the contribution of each monocular bearing ray in a probabilistic manner. The envisioned framework is evaluated in an outdoor scenario with a team of heterogeneous robots composed of an Unmanned Ground and Aerial Vehicle.

2014 OCEANS - ST. JOHN'S

Abstract
This paper addresses the development of an underwater visual navigation system for a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) based on Real-Time Simultaneous Localization and Mapping method using natural landmarks. Our proposed approach was tested in an indoor tank, where field experiments were performed to obtain 3D vehicle (VIDEORAY Pro3 ROV) trajectory, and results validated using an external stereo vision " ground-truth" system.

ROBOT 2015: SECOND IBERIAN ROBOTICS CONFERENCE: ADVANCES IN ROBOTICS, VOL 2

Abstract
This paper describes the development of an application that allows an ABB robot arm to automatically perform the portrait of people. The Portraiture Robot performs the picture of a human face on paper. The developed system consists of 4 steps: (i) image acquisition through a webcam, (ii) image processing to retrieve the contours and features of the person's face, (iii) vectorization of the coordinates in the image plane, and (iv) conversion of the coordinates to the RAPID programming language. To get only the person's face, is performed a background subtraction and to obtain only the necessary information from the image are used filtering techniques to remove the features and contours of the person's face. To convert these points into x, y coordinates, the contours are vectorised and sent to a file, saved according to a defined protocol, and allowing to create a program for the robot. The developed application allows processing of all blocks listed above in real-time and in a robust manner, having the ability to adapt to any environment and allowing continued use. The work was validated through the participation in the 2014 Portuguese Robotics Open, and in an ISEP exhibition that occurred in Maia, always with good results.

2017 IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions, ICARSC 2017

Abstract
This paper presents the work performed in the implementation of an underwater simulation environment for the development of an autonomous underwater vehicle for the exploration of flooded underground tunnels. In particular, the implementation of a laser based structured light system, multibeam sonar and other robot details were addressed. The simulation was used as a relevant tool in order to study and specify the robot multiple sensors characteristics and placement in order to adequately survey a realistic environment. A detailed description of the research and development work is presented along with the analysis of obtained results and the benefits this work brings to the project. © 2017 IEEE.

PATTERN RECOGNITION AND IMAGE ANALYSIS, IBPRIA 2013

Abstract
The robotics community is concerned with the ability to infer and compare the results from researchers in areas such as vision perception and multi-robot cooperative behavior. To accomplish that task, this paper proposes a real-time indoor visual ground truth system capable of providing accuracy with at least more magnitude than the precision of the algorithm to be evaluated. A multi-camera architecture is proposed under the ROS (Robot Operating System) framework to estimate the 3D position of objects and the implementation and results were contextualized to the Robocup Middle Size League scenario.

Abstract
The planning of mining operations in water filled open-pit mines requires detailed bathymetry to create a mine plan and assess the involved risks. This paper presents post processing techniques for creating an improved 3D model from a survey carried out using an autonomous surface vehicle with a multibeam sonar and a GPS/INS navigation system. Inconsistencies of the created point cloud as a result of calibration errors or GPS signal loss are corrected using a continuous-time simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solution. Signed distance function (SDF) based mapping is employed to fuse the measurements from multiple runs into a consistent representation and reduce sensor noise. From the signed distance function model we reconstruct a 3D surface mesh. We use this terrain model to establish a virtual reality scene for immersive data visualization of the mining operations for testing and planing during development. Results of the proposed approach are demonstrated on a dataset captured in an abandoned submerged inland mine.
