The Semantics of Movie Metadata: Enhancing User Profiling for Hybrid Recommendation

RECENT ADVANCES IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGIES, VOL 1

Abstract
In movie/TV collaborative recommendation approaches, ratings users gave to already visited content are often used as the only input to build profiles. However, users might have rated equally the same movie but due to different reasons: either because of its genre, the crew or the director. In such cases, this rating is insufficient to represent in detail users' preferences and it is wrong to conclude that they share similar tastes. The work presented in this paper tries to solve this ambiguity by exploiting hidden semantics in metadata elements. The influence of each of the standard description elements (actors, directors and genre) in representing user's preferences is analyzed. Simulations were conducted using Movielens and Netflix datasets and different evaluation metrics were considered. The results demonstrate that the implemented approach yields significant advantages both in terms of improving performance, as well as in dealing with common limitations of standard collaborative algorithm.

CVMP 2015: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 12TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON VISUAL MEDIA PRODUCTION

Abstract
This short paper presents a game for collecting metadata to describe video content. Tags, introduced by registered players on a given timecode of the video, are collected and validated based on a collaborative scoring mechanism that excludes erratic annotations. The system follows a gamification approach for motivating users and includes processes for semantically relating concepts.

MM'15: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2015 ACM MULTIMEDIA CONFERENCE

Abstract
This ACM International Workshop on Immersive Media Experiences is in its 3rd edition. Since 2013 in Barcelona, it has been a meeting point of researchers, students, media producers, service providers and industry players in the area of immersive media environments, applications and experiences. After the successful first edition at ACM Multimedia 2013 and the consolidation of the theme and the team at Orlando in 2014, ImmersiveMe' 15 aims at bringing to the stage new ideas and developments that keep this topic as appealing as in the previous editions. ImmersiveMe' 15 will now take place in Brisbane and, again, it will be a platform to present interesting and out-of-the-box new work that contributes to make the world more interactive, immersive and engaging.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2014 ACM CONFERENCE ON MULTIMEDIA (MM'14)

Abstract
The 2nd ACM International Workshop on Immersive Media Experiences (ImmersiveMe'14) at ACM Multimedia aims at bringing together researchers, students, media producers, service providers and industry players in the emergent area of immersive media experiences, through the exploration of different scenarios, applications, and neighboring fields. This second edition, after a successful first edition at ACM Multimedia 2013, provides a platform for presenting on-going work, to consolidate and tie different research communities working on this engaging area, as well as to point directions for the future.
