2008 PROCEEDINGS OF THE 43RD INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES POWER ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, VOLS 1-3

Abstract
All over the world, energy companies are investing in technologies to make better use of renewable energy to generate electric power. Wind energy is the renewable energy source that had a higher growing in the last decades and can be considered a hope in future based on dean and sustainable energy. The development of tools that allows operators and maintenance personnel to correlate machinery related information with other operational information such as machine speed, electrical load, and wind speed, are needed.

Proceedings of the Universities Power Engineering Conference

Abstract
In a competitive world such as ours, students must be prepared beforehand to be autonomous, industrious and skilful. Problem-based learning (PBL) is a methodology that can help the students to explore and put to use their own resources, and it can be applied to a wide range of students and subject matters. The project incorporates aspects of electrical engineering and computing skills. This study is dedicated to the learning process to help students to deal with the complexity of an electric power network. This study has conducted a new methodology in educational research by adopting technology for teaching and learning. PBL, as an instructional strategy of active learning, was used and adapted for use in Analysis in Electrical Power Systems programme. This methodology addresses many of the concerns of teachers and professional organizations. Above all, it encourages students to be in charge of their education. It emphasizes critical thinking skills, understanding, learning how to learn, and working cooperatively with others. The benefits of PBL in the Electrical Power Systems course are seen in the way students improved the study and analysis of the security in an electrical power system. This method can also be seen as a benefit for Electric Power Systems where educators strive for improved teaching and learning.

2009 IEEE BUCHAREST POWERTECH, VOLS 1-5

Abstract
Dynamic voltage stability has been an important problem in electric power systems. The dynamic behavior of modern power networks has been experiencing significant changes mainly due to the restructuring of electric industry, the introducing of open market environment and competition. In this paper it is presented a methodology to assess the dynamic voltage stability of an electric power system using trajectory sensitivity analysis. Trajectory sensitivity analysis can provide valuable insights into the security of an electric power system. In this study it was simulated a significant load demand disturbance in a test power network. The Automatic Voltage Regulator of the generating units, the Under Load Tap Changer and loads models were taken into account. The simulation results were obtained using EUROSTAG program and post-processing module developed using the Mat lab software package.

Abstract
With the development of electric power systems and their increase of complexity, basically due to the interconnection to other production centres, impose the necessity of introduction of new control system techniques. The efficiency of these control centres is only possible if data received from network arrives quickly and with accuracy. The basic task of a system operation is to get a reliable and accurate real time network model. In the past and even in the present, the real time network model is obtained by the use of System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and processing of the SCADA data via state estimator algorithms. Today's reality is different, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), digital fault recorders (DFRs), phase measurement units (PMUs) and relays, collects an enormous amount of data that arrives to control centres through SCADA system. So, other ways to validate and utilize this data are needed.

Abstract
In recent years, the electricity sector undergoes a restructuring process, operationally and commercially, moving from a vertical integrated model to a market oriented model. With past and current difficulties in building new transmission lines and the significant increase in power transactions associated with competitive electricity markets, maintaining system security, with special regard to voltage instability/collapse issues, is more than ever one of the main concerns for market and system operators. Voltage is most readily controlled by adjustments to reactive power injections in power system. Reactive power can be produced and absorbed by both generation and transmission equipment. System operators, transmission owners, generators, customers, power marketers and government regulators need to pay close attention to voltage control. This paper is devoted to the study of the reactive power support for dynamic voltage stability of a restructured electric power system. A severe contingency situation was simulated. The automatic voltage regulators of the generating units and the mechanically switched shunt capacitors were modelled. The simulation results were obtained using the commercial transient software package EUROSTAG. Finally, some conclusions that provide a better understanding of the voltage collapse phenomena are pointed out.

Abstract
Transmission system operators have to consider multiple contingencies in the security analysis whenever lightning or active forest fires exist or are expected, in order to be prepared and prevent harmful situations. This paper presents a method to integrate multiple contingencies in the security analysis. ©2010 IEEE.
