Camões, o Mar, a tecnologia e a ciência Portuguesas
The ocean, with challenges and allure, has been the most significant motivation for scientific and technological development in Portugal's history. This fact was particularly true during the 15th and 16th centuries - a truly unique period in our scientific history. Luís Vaz de Camões lived in this era, and the ocean’s central role in Portuguese life resonates throughout every page of Os Lusíadas.
Taking the 500th anniversary of Camões' birth as our starting point, this colloquium seeks to revisit said themes; we do so not only to celebrate Camões - an endeavour quite worthwhile in itself -, but above all to better understand the technical and scientific world in which he lived. In recent decades, there have been fascinating advances in historical knowledge regarding the achievements and European impact of Portuguese science from that period, and this event aims to further explore said historical developments. Moreover, we will share Portuguese ocean-related scientific advancements, highlighting the unique capabilities of INESC TEC in the field of ocean robotics.
Participation is subject to a maximum number of attendees – and we’ll provide a live-stream of the sessions. The event will be conducted in Portuguese.
