INESC Porto and UPIN promote RDI Management Systems

INESC Porto and the University of Porto Innovation (UPIN) have organised a cycle of workshops that aim to make Portuguese companies aware of the added value of implementing Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Management Systems. In addition to the areas of promotion, learning and discussion this partnership also has a consulting component that evaluates the management of RDI activities in Portuguese companies and supports their implementation.

16th May 2011

The project comes within the framework of GAPI 2.0 – Valuing Knowledge through the promotion of Entrepreneurialism, Innovation and Industrial Property (Gabinetes de Valorização do Conhecimento pela promoção do Empreendedorismo, Inovação e Propriedade Industrial), which is supported by the Incentives and Collective Actions System from the Operational Programme: Competitive Factors from the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF). One of the objectives of GAPI 2.0 is to promote RDI management systems (RDIMS) making Portuguese companies aware of RDI and encouraging them to implement the RDIMS. To achieve these objectives UPIN was supported by the Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit (UITT) at INESC Porto.

Five workshops took place on the following subjects: Identifying and classifying RDI activities”, “open innovation practices”, “creativity in organisations” and “practical cases for implementing IDI management systems”. The workshops took place between April 2010 and March 2011.

According to a source at UPIN, the partnership with INESC Porto has produced successful results. “The companies took part in the workshops and a total of 21 individuals from companies working in various areas participated. This dissemination resulted in six RDI consultancy contracts for INESC Porto who is also currently supporting the implementation of a RDIMS”.

Having concluded the evaluation phase the RDIMS is now being implemented in the Cerealis Produtos Alimentares Food Company, which is responsible for the Milaneza brand.
