Most influential paper of the VL/HCC 2019 conference was co-written by INESC TEC

The paper “Automatically Inferring ClassSheet Models from Spreadsheets”, co-written by João Saraiva, researcher of INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) and Professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, was awarded the Most Influential Paper from the VL/HCC 2019 international conference, which took place in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, between 14 and 18 October.

23rd October 2019

Written in partnership with Jácome Cunha from the School of Engineering of the University of Minho and Martin Erwig from the Oregan State University, the paper was accepted and presented at the IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC 2010), which was held in Madrid, Spain, between 21 and 25 September of 2010.

Every year, several conferences award a prize in order to distinguish the most influential paper (MIP) for every 10 years. Ten years later, the article is highlighted as being the most influential of this international conference, and being considered the article with the greater impact on the community during this period of time.

“Automatically Inferring ClassSheet Models from Spreadsheets” presents an innovative technique for inferring abstract models from spreadsheets. These models are then used to guide the users of these spreadsheets in the entry of correct data.

VL/HCC is an international conference that intends to support the design, theory, application, and evaluation of computing technologies and languages for programming, modelling, and communicating, which are easier to learn, use, and understand by the users themselves.
