INESC TEC, together with INEGI and P2E, is helping one of the IKEA factories in Portugal in the definition of smart control strategies for the ventilation and air conditioning system of the building. The main objective? Help the factory improving the energy efficiency of different systems and processes, such as dust or gas extraction, and the use of renewable resources, while achieving higher levels of comfort and indoor air quality.

During the current month, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) and Energy cluster will launch the “Power and Energy Webinar Series” initiative. In each webinar, a researcher from INESC TEC will present and discuss ideas, as well as expected and/or already achieved results associated with the energy systems of the future.

INESC TEC concluded the FlexAgg project, a consultancy contract with EDP Comercial related to the participation of large electrical energy consumers in the regulation reserve market, within the scope of the pilot-project promoted by the Portuguese Energy Regulator (ERSE). This pilot will enable consumers to participate more actively in the electricity and ancillary services markets.

For the first time since 1963, the year the first edition the PSCC – Power Systems Computation Conference – took place, the event was organised and held online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. INESC TEC organised the conference, one of the most important world events in the field of energy systems, with close to 450 participants attending.

Researchers from the INESC TEC's Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) developed the e-Predator Artificial Intelligence system, in partnership with Águas do Tejo Atlântico, part of the Águas de Portugal Group. Thanks to e-Predator, it’s possible to reduce the consumption of electricity in wastewater treatment plants by up to 20%.

INESC TEC is the only entity involved in the project “Long_Forecasting: ENTSO-E demand forecasting methodology – Performance assessment and improvement”. The four-month project launched in March focuses on developing and implementing a long-term electricity consumption forecasting system for European countries until 2050.

ATTEST - Advanced Tools Towards cost-efficient decarbonisation of future reliable Energy SysTems - is the name of the new European project that aims to develop a set of innovative tools to support the planning, maintenance and operation of future electrical networks. INESC TEC, through the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), is responsible for coordinating the project, which started in early March and will last for three years.

The EUniversal – Market Enabling Interface to Unlock Flexibility Solutions for Cost-effective Management of Smarter Distribution Grids, whose kick-off meeting took place on February 10, aims to develop new market, innovative services and tools to allow the seamless integration of flexibility in the operation and planning of distribution networks. The main goal is to enable the massive integration of renewable energy sources via services that ensure the contribution of flexible resources, such as storage systems and electric vehicles – V2G, consumers and energy communities.
