The first meeting of the stakeholders of the STRONGMAR project was held on 14 November at the facilities of the Port of Leixões Cruise Terminal, in Matosinhos. This meeting was held at the Marinetech 2017 event, promoted by the Hydrographic Institute and CIIMAR, which took place at the mentioned facilities on 14, 15 and 16 November.

InstitutionalThe goal of project FLEXUS - Flexible Unmanned Surface Vehicles for the Internet of Moving Things, developed by INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS) and Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), is to provide a set of ten autonomous surface vehicles capable of performing missions designed and deployed remotely by the researchers over the Internet.

INESC TEC is the tenderer.

InstitutionalIn February, INESC TEC concluded ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations), a European project where the goal was to develop autonomous robots that could assist rescue teams in disaster situations. The project brought together 24 partners from nine countries. With a 17 million euro budget, the project lasted four years.

InstitutionalPortugal will be participating in a European project where the goal is to explore, using robots, mines that have been closed and are partially underwater. The project will provide five million euros to build the first robots in the world capable of operating underground, autonomously and remotely. The submersible system will be tested in Portugal, Finland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.

InstitutionalIn October 2015, two teams from INESC TEC’s Centres for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB) have started working on project ENDURE, led by INESC TEC (project leader). The goal with this project is to develop an underwater docking station for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The station will allow these vehicles to remain in the ocean for long periods of time.

The group represented Portugal in the euRathlon, the largest robotics competition in Europe, which took place between 17 and 25 September in Piombino (Livorno, Italy).
