Abstract
Contrary to outdoor positioning and navigation systems, there isn't a counterpart global solution for indoor environments. Usually, the deployment of an indoor positioning system must be adapted case by case, according to the infrastructure and the objective of the localization. A particularly delicate case is related with persons who are blind or visually impaired. A robust and easy to use indoor navigation solution would be extremely useful, but this would also be particularly difficult to develop, given the special requirements of the system that would have to be more accurate and user friendly than a general solution This paper presents a contribute to this subject, by proposing a hybrid indoor positioning system adaptable to the surrounding indoor structure, and dealing with different types of signals to increase accuracy. This would permit lower the deployment costs, since it could be done gradually, beginning with the likely existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to get a fairy accuracy up to a high accuracy using visual tags and NFC tags when necessary and possible.

Abstract
The evolution of technology in the last decade predicts a future where technology is disseminated in the environment in order to merge with the environment itself, being omnipresent. This world paradigm has been associated with the Internet of Things concept or, according to several authors, with the Internet of Everything concept. The potential massive dispersion of technology, which, with the progress of nanotechnology, will be increasingly miniaturized, combined with high-performance and universal communication networks, will revolutionize the concept of monitoring, resulting in profound changes in various sectors of activity and knowledge. In this context, this article presents a cloud-based Internet of Things architecture in order to respond to the growing needs of monitoring by the Civil Protection Public Organizations, who are responsible for monitoring several parameters and produce multiple information and reports in the context of the security of populations and territories. Finally, it is presented a prototype implemented according to the proposed architecture capable of monitoring monoliths dispersed in the territory, as a way of acting preventively, avoiding merely reactive actions after disaster situations. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Abstract
Rural regions concentrate on themselves a very rich set of ancestral traditions. The perpetuation of such traditions has been achieved through transmission between generations. Unfortunately, all this knowledge is typically elders-centered and it lacks effective processes of digitalization, storage and providing-systems for that all this heritage can effectively be perpetuated through future generations that are digital-born. From this base, it was created a project case study limited to the Portuguese Northeast region, named Viv@vó – living in the grandma's house. This paper presents the ICT platform that was created in this project and some main achievements during the project development process. Tourism and mainly experience and cultural heritage tourism are growing in tourist’s interests. Rural regions have an untapped potential for this slice of tourism industry. Rural regions have an enormous collection of ancestral knowledge that we are responsible to deliver to future generations as an inheritance to which they are entitled. Copyright © 2019. Carlos R. Bringing Together High School Actors Using Mobile Applications: A Conceptual Model Proposal

Abstract
Communication among the different actors present in the school ecosystem is an essential issue. However, in a hectic world where parents do not have much time to visit schools regularly, it is crucial to create mechanisms to better monitor student's success and school demands. The interaction among school, students and parents presents a growing complex challenge. Technology has, in recent years, shaped the concepts of learning support and monitoring - both in school and out of school - as well as the way information flows among all actors in the school ecosystem. Emergently, the evolution of mobile applications, coupled with the evolution of mobile device capabilities, has made possible to create new and more effective intercommunication mechanisms, with ubiquitous approaches and in a predictable scenario of less willingness to physically interaction of the different actors. Based on these assumptions, this paper reflects on the potential of mobile devices and their applications to support new models of intercommunication among parents or school sponsors, students and teachers. Accordingly, a conceptual model is proposed that represents a work in progress that aims the creation and evaluation of a prototype system capable of improve de intercommunication and the overall success of the school learning system societal challenges.
