An integrated information systems architecture for the agri-food industry

Abstract
As information systems and technologies grow in usage in the agri-food industry, the same has happened to the relevance of Information Systems (IS) that allow for a parallel control, monitoring and management of the organizations' activities and business processes. As the literature proves, the benefits of implementing adequate and interoperable IS are very numerous and tend to represent a significant determinant regarding the organizations' overall success. Despite this, to the best of our knowledge there currently is no IS architecture designed to serve the specificities of the agri-food industry. With this study a novel information systems architecture for the agri-food sector is proposed. The artefact is composed by 12 integrated main components and a set of subcomponents aimed at supporting all the monitoring, control and management activities. In order to validate the proposed architecture a case study was implemented at a mushroom production organization. This allowed us to perceive the ability of our artefact to serve as the basis for the development of IS that address all of the organization's business and environmental needs.

The impact of digital influencers on product/service purchase decision making-An exploratory case study of Portuguese people

Abstract
The growing use of technology and social media has resulted in the emergence of digital influencers, a new profession capable of changing the mentalities and behaviours of those who follow them. This study arises to better understand the potential impact digital influencers might have on the Portuguese population's purchase behaviour and patterns, and for this purpose, seven hypotheses were formulated. An online questionnaire was conducted to respond to these theoretical assumptions and collected data from 175 respondents. A total of 129 valid answers were considered. It was possible to conclude that purchase intention does not necessarily translate into a purchase action. It was also concluded that the relationship between social network use and the purchase of products/services recommended by influencers is only statistically significant for Instagram. Furthermore, the individuals' generation is not statistically significant / linked with purchasing a product/service recommended by influencers. Yet further, a small percentage of respondents have also identified themselves as impulsive shoppers and perceived Instagram as their favourite social network. With the results of this study, it is also possible to state that the influencer's opinion was classified as the last factor considered in the purchase decision process. Additionally, there is a weak negative association between purchasing a product/service recommended by influencers with sponsorship disclosure and remunerated partnership, which decreases credibility and discourages purchasing, in Portugal, a feminine culture which dislikes materialism.

Abstract
The motivation to perform this particular research comes from a need which we feel exists for further research in this area. It is necessary to answer a set of questions both empirical (observed over the years in the area of health and safety) and theoretical (following an analysis of the international literature) relative to the dimension of the problem of musculoskeletal injuries resulting from the exercise of the nursing profession in a hospital context. Research questions addressed include: 1) Are there complaints associated to the performing of nursing tasks? 2) How serious in terms of absolute numbers are musculoskeletal injuries? 3) What sort of influence does the environment (namely buildings) play, as well as technology / equipment, and work organization? Furthermore, 4) What should be present in the workplace but is not? After analyzing survey (of 168 active nurses in Portuguese hospitals) and interview data and having observed nurses at work, accompanying them in their day-to-day tasks, there is a global tendency to consider that, over the last twelve months of work, in a hospital context, nursing professionals have felt pain or musculoskeletal discomfort in a part of their bodies. Research results point also to more training and more adequate working spaces being needed in order to decrease musculoskeletal injuries amongst nurses. Furthermore, the more widespread usage of technological means which are lacking in some hospitals (such as beds with adjustable height, trapeze-type supporting bars attached above beds, patient transferring lifts and transferring belts) or in bad condition (such as wheels on beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers, which makes moving patients difficult) could also reveal itself to be an important aid, presenting itself as a solution to the problem discussed herein, on the one hand due to the number of injuries on the other due to the need for more professionals.

Accessibility levels of Portuguese enterprise websites: equal opportunities for all?

Abstract
Web accessibility is growing in importance. We may also find an increasing need for access to web resources by those with some sort of disability. The Web is very important for spreading information and for promoting interaction between the various elements in society. Given this, it is essential that the Web presents itself as a totally accessible resource, so that it can help citizens with disabilities and their integration in society. This obligation should be even greater for enterprises as primarily the Web is used as a marketing and business platform. With this document, we present indicators regarding the [lack of] accessibility levels of Portuguese enterprise websites. This article contains theoretical and background considerations as well as the results of two different studies that the research team undertook. First of all, the research team made a comparison between the 1000 largest Portuguese enterprises (annual sales volume) and the 1000 best Portuguese small and medium enterprises (sales growth and profit) using a specialised software tool and according to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0; the research team then also considered WCAG 2.0 and its impact on enterprise Web accessibility. In the second study (qualitative in nature), focus group interactions led to a set of recommendations towards greater accessibility.

STRATEGIC CHANGE COMMUNICATION USING A NOVEL BUSINESS NARRATIVE MODELLING LANGUAGE

Abstract
This conceptual paper is developed in the realm of strategic change communication. The purpose of this paper is to present our Business Narrative Modelling Language (BNML) (Oliveira and Ferreira, 2010a) as a tool for facilitating change. We illustrate how BNML has been used in real life cases to discuss strategy. Following data collection using a qualitative methodology and an analysis of the "As-Is" situation we proceed to construct a representation of the future desired ("To-Be") situation, in both situations using BNML. We start by defining the organizational actors relevant to value creation, we then map out their interactions in the organizational context, and study how relevant deliverables are exchanged, both tangible and intangible, along various storylines, one per actor. The social interaction leading to value creation happens according to a pattern sequence (using patterns taken from Bjork and Holopainen, 2005, which are intuitively comprehensible) and is instantiated according to an Enterprise Ontology (Uschold et al., 1998) (Oliveira and Ferreira, 2010a, b). By combining various sensemaking strategies such as the narrative, visual mapping and quantification our BNML scores high on accuracy, simplicity and generality (Langley, 1999) thus providing an attractive alternative to other techniques available to researchers and consultants and used to "connect and organize dispersed organizational knowledge" (Huff and Jenkins, 2002, p. 14).
