Improving Quality of Service in 5G Resilient Communication with the Cellular Structure of Smartphones

Abstract
Recent studies in information computation technology (ICT) are focusing on Next-generation networks, SDN (Software-defined networking), 5G, and 6G. Optimal working mode for device-to-device (D2D) communication is aimed at improving the quality of service with the frequency spectrum structure is of research areas in 5G. D2D communication working modes are selected to meet both the predefined system conditions and provide maximum throughput for the network. Due to the complexity of the direct solutions, we formulated the problem as an optimization problem and found the optimal working modes under different parameters of the system through extensive simulations. After determining the links' optimal modes, we calculated the network throughput; because of selecting the best working modes, we obtained the highest throughput. A major finding from this research is that D2D communication pairs are more inclined to use full-duplex (FD) mode in short distances to meet system requirements, and so most communications take place in FD mode at these distances. According to these results, using FD communication at short distances offers better conditions and Quality of service (QoS) than QoS-D2D method.

A Robot Operating System Based Prototype for In-Vehicle Data Acquisition and Analysis

Abstract
In the past years, the automotive industry has been integrating multiple hardware in the vehicle to enable new features and applications. In particular automotive applications, it is important to monitor the actions and behaviors of drivers and passengers to promote their safety and track abnormal situations such as social disorders or crimes. These applications rely on multiple sensors that generate real-time data to be processed, and thus, they require adequate data acquisition and analysis systems.This article proposes a prototype to enable in-vehicle data acquisition and analysis based on the middleware framework Robot Operating System (ROS). The proposed prototype features two processing devices and enables synchronized audio and video acquisition, storage, and processing. It was assessed through the implementation of a live inference system consisting of a face detection algorithm from the data gathered from the cameras and the microphone. The proposed prototype inherits the flexibility of the ROS framework and has a modular and scalable design; thus, more sensors, processing devices, and applications can be deployed.

Prototyping the IDS Security Components in the Context of Industry 4.0 - A Textile and Clothing Industry Case Study

Abstract
With the introduction of Industry 4.0 technological concepts, suppliers and manufacturers envision new or improved products and services, cost reductions, and productivity gains. In this context, data exchanges between companies in the same or different activity sectors are necessary, while assuring data security and sovereignty. Thus, it is crucial to select and implement adequate standards which enable the interconnection requirements between companies and also feature security by design. The International Data Spaces (IDS) is a current standard that provides data sharing through data spaces mainly composed of homogeneous rules, certified data providers/consumers, and reliability between partners. Implementing IDS in sectors such as textile and clothing is expected to open new opportunities and challenges. This paper proposes a prototype for the IDS Security Components in the Textile and Clothing Industry context. This prototype assures data sovereignty and enables the interactions required by all participants in this supply chain industry using secure communications. The adoption of IDS as a base model in this activity sector fosters productive collaboration, lowers entry barriers for business partnerships, and enables an innovation environment. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A system architecture to detect and block unwanted wireless signals in a classroom

Abstract
The actual learning process in a school, college or university should take full advantage of the digital transformation. Computers, mobile phones, tablets or other electronic devices can be used in learning environments to improve learning experience and students performance. However, in a university campus, there are some activities where the use of connected devices, might be discouraged or even forbidden. Students should be discouraged to use their own devices in classes where they may become alienated or when their devices may cause any disturbance. Ultimately, their own devices should be forbidden in activities such as closed-book exams. This paper proposes a system architecture to detect or block unwanted wireless signals by students' mobile phones in a classroom. This architecture focuses on specific wireless signals from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfaces, and it is based on Software-Defined Radio (SDR) modules and a set of antennas with two configuration modes: detection mode and blocking mode. When in the detection mode, the architecture processes signals from the antennas, detects if there is any signal from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interfaces and infers a position of the unwanted mobile device. In the blocking mode, the architecture generates noise in the same frequency range of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interfaces, blocking any possible connection. Toward a Secure Industrial Wireless Body Area Network Focusing MAC Layer Protocols: An Analytical Review

Abstract
Monitoring security and quality of service is essential, due to the rapid growth of the number of nodes in wireless networks. In healthcare/industrial environments, especially in wireless body area networks (WBANs), this is even more important. Because the delays and errors can directly affect patients'/scientists' health. To increase the Monitoring Quality of Services (MQoS) in WBANs, a secure medium access control (MAC) protocol needs to be developed to provide optimal services. This article provides a comprehensive review of MAC protocols in WBANs with a technical security analysis approach. Time-based, contention-based, and hybrid protocols are compared in this article, regarding MQoS and their security vulnerabilities. We have considered delay, packet loss, and energy consumption as performance evaluation criteria in WBANs, which may be degraded under a cyberattack. This work shows that there is a research gap in the literature, which is the failure of covering security and privacy issues in the MAC layer protocols.

Traffic flow control using multi-agent reinforcement learning

Abstract
One of the technologies based on information technology used today is the VANET network used for inter-road communication. Today, many developed countries use this technology to optimize travel times, queue lengths, number of vehicle stops, and overall traffic network efficiency. In this research, we investigate the critical and necessary factors to increase the quality of VANET networks. This paper focuses on increasing the quality of service using multi-agent learning methods. The innovation of this study is using artificial intelligence to improve the network's quality of service, which uses a mechanism and algorithm to find the optimal behavior of agents in the VANET. The result indicates that the proposed method is more optimal in the evaluation criteria of packet delivery ratio (PDR), transaction success rate, phase duration, and queue length than the previous ones. According to the evaluation criteria, TSR 6.342%, PDR 9.105%, QL 7.143%, and PD 6.783% are more efficient than previous works.
