2019 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (ICE/ITMC)

Abstract
Mobility is an essential part of modern society and of the actual panorama of mobility and accessibility, including Public Transportation Systems (PTS), needs to be rethink and adapted, regarding the social and technological evolutions, enhancing a healthier, environmentally sustainable, economic viable and equitable transportation for all the population. This paper describes the actual mobility attributes, through mentioning diverse case studies, and technological features/requirements towards presenting a solution to achieve the redefinition of mobility systems, i.e. allowing to enhance integrated mobility options, from the Public Transport (PT) modes through the soft modes enclosure, supported by a technological system that could manage and support the efficient use of such mobility options - that is designated as Flexible on Demand Transport Services (FDTS). The involvement and commitment of all the stakeholders in the mobility process as well as the municipal support, and the policy makers in general is essential to fully adopt the mobility framework dynamics and implement the future mobility of the intermodal system and of the MaaS integration.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT (ICEE 2019): BRINGING TOGETHER ENGINEERING AND ECONOMICS

Abstract
Along with the social evolution concept and the environmental concerns, the use of active transport modes is a suitable solution to face this new reality. Therefore, the cultural shift needed in order to promote the use of active modes, the use of bicycles as a viable transport mode, and the understanding of its impacts and characteristics becomes a present priority and concern. Based on the actual bicycle panorama and the Portuguese cycling strategies and guidelines, the GetGreen Company data, in the scope of the EducaBicla Program case study, is analysed and a future pathway is outlined. This study allows to create a sensitivity perception of the relation between the daily use of bicycles as a transport mode and its promotion among young ages population, i.e. the impact on sustainable and healthy daily mobility choices after having the knowledge provided by teaching/learning bicycle programs such as EducaBicla. In this paper are identified the main features/characteristics to be considered when implementing a bicycle teaching/learning project, ensuring progress towards the use of active, healthy and sustainable mobility modes; the appropriated age to start this program; and how this program can be expanded.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT (ICEE 2019): BRINGING TOGETHER ENGINEERING AND ECONOMICS

Abstract
The modem societies claim on being safer, more sustainable and with more inclusive mobility policies, towards assuring the world sustainable standards. One of the key future mobility factors is focused on the usage of the soft modes, emphasizing the use of bicycles. This mean of transport needs to be permanently implemented worldwide, supported by policies that can unify user's, planners, public and private companies, academics and politicians. Therefore, it is crucial to understanding the user's motivations to adopt the bicycle as a mean of transport instead of the motorized vehicle solutions. With the aim of understanding the user's characteristics, needs and expectations regarding the use of bicycle, as well as to point out innovative initiatives and the role of bicycles in cities' planning, some European examples were analyzed and described as state-of-the-art practices. Such examples allow us to consider and propose a set of adjustments and future recommendations to strengthen the bicycle option as an effective mass mobility mean.

9th International Conference on Intelligent Systems 2018: Theory, Research and Innovation in Applications, IS 2018 - Proceedings

Abstract
Population in the cities grows every day posing new challenges that need to be properly addressed throughout the planning and design of sustainable and smart cities - cities of the future. Mobility is an important issue considering social inclusion and the sustainable development of such cities. Thus, future mobility will have an increased importance when having to plan and design the cities of tomorrow. A key component of any future mobility and its metabolism is what is known as Mobility as a Service (MaaS), representing emerging opportunities from any type or mode of transportation in future cities. Through an empirical and explorative research methodology, this paper presents the main APP's/platforms characteristics, regarding the European territory, towards an integrated and sustainable mobility. Concluding, we present some features and trends that should be considered in the development of future MaaS systems, allowing a more convenient provision of versatile and attractive mobility services. © 2018 IEEE.

Project Management Maturity: Case study analysis using OPM3 (R) model in manufacturing industry

2019 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (ICE/ITMC)

Abstract
This research analyses the degree of maturity of project management practices. The study object were the organizations that develop their main activity in manufacturing machines for the mining and quarrying and construction industries, in the region of Tamega e Sousa (Portugal). The theoretical background is the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3 (R)). The methodological approach adopted was case study research (multiple case study). The results give us cues to believe that the degree of maturity of this industry is very low. The three companies analysed revealed levels of maturity around 15%. The reasons behind the low level of maturity are related with the lack of adoption of organizational enablers and the low level use of project management practices: 48% of project management processes are not used, and 28% are classified into an ad-hoc stage. In a management context this research can be a starting point to improve project management in organizations. Yet, one can conclude that these organizations develop their daily operations within a project management perspective but this is not recognized by them. Even identifying processes that are part of recognized good project management practices, these organizations score for a relatively low maturity level. This research brought important practical contributions, by raising at least awareness of the project management value in the organizations studied.

JOURNAL OF RISK AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Abstract
The challenges of financial systems have immediate or medium-term social effects. The financial industry is constantly searching for measures to reduce these challenges, especially for those with little or no access to financial services. While current communication technologies make services more accessible through digital mobile platforms, there are still difficulties in establishing viable customer arrangements. In addition to the increased investment in financial technologies, nonbanking financial institutions have now expanded to offer more flexible services tailored to individual circumstances, especially those in isolated rural areas. This research outlines the network model of nonbanking financial institutions in Romania, as well as a microfinance model, based on the financial analysis of four national indicators of nonbanking financial institutions. Data used are presented in absolute values, from the annual numerical series for the reference period 2007-2017. The new initiatives and features incorporated in this Romanian model should be applicable elsewhere and will actively contribute to the expansion and sustainability of financial services, with a positive inclusive impact on society.
