Lifelong learning through digital storytelling in corporate training

Abstract
In this paper we discuss collaborative learning strategies based on the use of digital stories in corporate training and lifelong learning. The text starts with a concise review on theoretical and technical foundations about the use of digital technologies in collaborative strategies in lifelong learning. We will also discuss if the corporate training may be improved by the use of individual audio-visual experience in learning process. Careful planning, scripting and production of audio-visual digital stories can help in the construction of collaborative learning spaces in which adults are in the context of vocational training throughout life. Our analysis concludes emphasizing on the need to experience the routing performance of digital stories in the context of corporate training, following the reference levels mentioned here, so we can have in a future more theoretical and empirical elements for the validation and conceptualization in the use of digital stories in the context of corporate training. Ultimately we believe that lifelong learning can be improved with the use of strategies that promote the production of personal audio-visual for those involved in teaching and learning process in organizational context.

Service Response Time Measurement Model of Service Level Agreements in Cloud Environment

Abstract
In cloud environments, resources should be acquired and released automatically and quickly at runtime. Therefore, ensuring the desired QoS is a great challenge for the cloud service provider. Moreover, it increases when we have large amount of data to be manipulated in this environment. Considering that, performance is an important requirement for most customers when they migrate their applications to the cloud. In this paper, we propose a model for measuring a Service Response Time estimated for different request types on large databases available in a cloud environment. This work allows the cloud service provider and its customers establish an appropriate SLA relative to performance expected of services available in the cloud. Finally, the model was evaluated in Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructure and the TPC-DS like benchmark was used for generating a database of structured data, considering that some cloud computing platforms support SQL queries directly or indirectly. This makes the proposed solution relevant for these kind of problems.

Information system for the management and visualization of multisensorial contents

Abstract
Humans sense the surrounding environment through five senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. This is valid not only for real life but also when one is exposed to virtual environments. It already exists systems that exploit the sensorial stimulation of more than one sense, however there are no available low-cost solutions that allow creative professionals to create and visualize multisensory contents. On this paper it is presented a solution for the creation and delivery of multisensory contents that allow users to create their own multisensory experiments. An evaluation of the developed solution that shows the potential of these new contents is also described.

Procedural Generation of Road Paths for Driving Simulation

Abstract
Virtual environments for driving simulation aimed to scientific purposes require realistic three-dimensional models of roads. The creation of road models for these purposes, is usually preceded by the design of road paths which fulfill all the desired specific characteristics. Traditionally, the design of road paths is performed by road engineering specialists, resulting in a very time-consuming task. This paper presents a method that allows the procedural generation of road paths aimed to driving simulation experiments (e.g., ergonomics, psychology and traffic engineering). This method is inspired in methods used in roadways engineering, producing roads according to the design standards and similar to those found in the real world. This significantly reduces the need of specialists to prepare the road paths and generate road models suitable for conducting scientific work in driving simulators.

Abstract
Gesture-controlled applications typically are tied to specific gestures, and also tied to specific recognition methods and specific gesture-detection devices. We propose a concern-separation architecture, which mediates the following concerns: gesture acquisition; gesture recognition; and gestural control. It enables application developers to respond to gesture-independent commands, recognized using plug-in gesture-recognition modules that process gesture data via both device-dependent and device-independent data formats and callbacks. Its feasibility is demonstrated with a sample implementation.
