Abstract
Long-term, regular, grid-aware participants are one of the cornerstones of demand management activities that provide grid services. However, voluntary participation to demand management activities is still at low rates, while most customers are not sufficiently aware of the management potential of their flexible loads. Smart metering and data post-processing play a vital role in demand management programs to visualize consumption profiles, highlight flexibility potential and evaluate load management performance of customers. Additionally, gamification techniques can be employed to motivate users to achieve behavioral changes in their consumption profiles, providing financial and social incentives. Long-term field demonstrations and exploration of detailed evaluation metrics have been the main gaps in this area of study. This paper presents and discusses the results of a 13-month field demonstration of a gamified residential demand management platform. 4-month monitoring period is followed by a 9-month gamification period in four houses in Istanbul, Turkey. © 2019 IEEE.

Abstract
New energy technologies such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER) will affect the spatial and temporal patterns of electricity consumption. Models that mimic technology diffusion processes over time are fundamental to support decisions in power system planning and policymaking. This paper shows that spatiotemporal technology diffusion forecasts consist typically of three main modules: 1) a global technology diffusion forecast, 2) the cellular module that is a spatial data substrate with cell states and transition rules, and 3) a spatial mapping module, commonly based on Geographic Information Systems. This work provides a review of previous spatiotemporal DER diffusion models and details their common building blocks. Analyzing 16 model variants of an exemplary spatial simulation model used to predict electric vehicle adoption patterns in Portugal, the analysis suggests that model performance is strongly affected by careful tuning of spatial and temporal granularities and chosen inference techniques. In general, model validation remains challenging, as early diffusion stages have typically few observations for model calibration.

Abstract
The smart home will bring many challenges. One of the challenges is how to design a smart home that satisfies the needs of the residents in a cost-effective way. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing an optimization model to define the optimal portfolio of smart home technologies and electricity tariffs that minimize the overall investment and operation costs of the house owner. The smart home technologies include electric vehicle charging stations, battery energy storage systems, home energy management systems, and photovoltaic systems. A case study of a real house in Portugal was used to evaluate the performance of the planning optimization model. The numerical results show that the optimization model selects the combination of smart home technologies and electricity tariffs that best meets the needs of the household owner in a cost-effective way.

Abstract
Energy efficiency in buildings can be enhanced by several actions: encouraging users to comprehend and then adopt more energy-efficient behaviors; aiding building managers in maximizing energy savings; and using automation to optimize energy consumption, generation, and storage of controllable and flexible devices without compromising comfort levels and indoor air-quality parameters. This paper proposes an integrated Information and communications technology (ICT) based platform addressing all these factors. The gamification platform is embedded in the ICT platform along with an interactive energy management system, which aids interested stakeholders in optimizing "when and at which rate" energy should be buffered and consumed, with several advantages, such as reducing peak load, maximizing local renewable energy consumption, and delivering more efficient use of the resources available in individual buildings or blocks of buildings. This system also interacts with an automation manager and a users' behavior predictor application. The work was developed in the Horizon 2020 FEEdBACk (Fostering Energy Efficiency and BehAvioral Change through ICT) project.

Abstract
The energy efficiency requirements of most energy-consuming sectors have increased recently in response to climate change. For buildings, this means targeting both facility managers and building users with the aim of identifying potential energy savings and encouraging more energy-responsible behaviors. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform developed in Horizon 2020 FEEdBACk project intends to fulfill these goals by enabling the optimization of energy consumption, generation, and storage and control of flexible devices without compromising comfort levels and indoor air quality parameters. This work aims to demonstrate the real-world implementation and functionality of the ICT platform composed of Load Disaggregation, Net Load Forecast, Occupancy Forecast, Automation Manager, and Behavior Predictor applications. Particularly, the results obtained by individual applications during the test phase are presented alongside the specific metrics used to evaluate their performance.
