Abstract
The future of intelligent vehicles will rely on robust information to allow the proper feedback to the vehicle itself, to issue several kinds of active safety, but before all, to generate information for the driver by calling his or her attention to potential instantaneous or mid-term risks associated with the driving. Before true vehicle autonomy, safety and driver assistance are a priority. Sophisticated sensorial and perceptive mechanisms must be made available for, in a first instance, assisting the driver and, on a latter phase, participate in better autonomy. These mechanisms rely on sensors and algorithms that are mostly available nowadays, but many of them are still unsuited for critical situations. This paper presents a project where engineering and scientific solutions have been devised to settle a full featured real scale platform for the next generation of ITS vehicles that are concerned with the immediate issues of navigation and challenges on the road. The car is now ready and running, and the data gathering has just begun. ©2010 IEEE.

Abstract
This paper presents a Variable Structure Adaptive Backstepping Controller (VS-ABC) for linear plants with arbitrary relative degree, using only input/output measurements. In order to improve the transient response, switching laws are proposed in the adaptive backstepping approach via modular design, instead of the integral adaptive laws. Furthermore, simplified algorithms are presented for the VS-ABC, motivating applications on industrial environments. Simulation results for an unstable system with relative degree three are shown.

Controlling the speed of a three-phase induction motor using a simplified indirect adaptive sliding mode scheme

Abstract
This paper presents a robust output feedback controller based on sliding modes and indirect adaptive control applied to the angular shaft speed control of a three-phase induction motor. This approach has remarkable stability properties and offers a straightforward and intuitive tuning of its parameters. Moreover, a simplified version of the algorithm, named compact indirect variable structure model reference adaptive control (CIVS-MRAC), provides not only an easy design procedure, but also a computational implementation of low complexity, thus motivating its application in industrial environments.

Abstract
Nowadays, tourists are increasingly thirsty for information on anything that surrounds him. With the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) evolution that supports the ubiquity, it is necessary to rethink the available models of information and services to tourists. With the evolution of mobile devices, with wireless access, together with the decreasing of the network traffic costs and with the increasing number of access points of wireless access, becomes more common and attractive. Therefore, in this paper we present an analysis of the state of the art of the support applications for tourists for mobile environments, setting them according to the development technologies. In addition, it is also presented a suitable framework to support the tourist's needs based on a ubiquitous approach.
