Blockchain and authentication
Work description
The Device as a Service (DaaS) is already a reality from an economics standpoint but has yet to become a well-known paradigm in the scientific community. A single reference was found in literature that conceptualizes a DaaS largely like the one envisioned in this proposal. Even though, their work considers device abstraction and home network management and access control: capabilities for international deployment with high assurances of integrity, immutability, and reliability, achieved with the use of blockchain technologies aren’t considered. A recent work proposes a blockchain-assisted data sharing system that implements access control based on smart contracts. Their objective is overcoming trust and access control. When considering blockchain-assisted access control mechanisms, multiple solutions can be found in academic literature, but these ignore the concept of device ownership, not considering that the device owner may be distinct from the device user. This work programme targets the contribution to requirement specifications, design, prototyping and validation, as well as to scientific report writing.
