Porto will host the first session "40 years of Science and Knowledge", with Commissioner Elisa Ferreira
02nd July 2020
“Empowering companies to face new challenges” is the theme of the first session, part of a series of three conferences organised by the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering (INESC) to observe 40 years of history. The event will take place on July 6, at 2:30 p.m., at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
“INESC was born in 1980, in Lisbon, and immediately became a leading model in the University-Industry relationship, with a significant influence in the country's scientific and technological system. On July 6, we will discuss this decades-long experience, the impact of INESC on the business world and also the challenges that companies, society and the country will face in the future, some of which are already a reality today ”, said José Tribolet , President of INESC.
Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, will participate as keynote speaker in the event. She will be in charge of opening the discussion with a panel of speakers from companies and business associations: António Amorim, President & CEO of Corticeira Amorim; António Mexia, President of EDP; Isabel Furtado, CEO of TMG Automotive and President of COTEC; Manuel Carlos, President of APICCAPS and Paulo Azevedo, President of the Board of Directors of SONAE.
The event is associated with the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of INESC in Porto – later called INESC TEC, as an institution part of INESC. José Tribolet, President of INESC, and Manuel Heitor, Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education (representing Prime Minister António Costa) will close the session.
The session will take place as a hybrid event, with the speakers present on stage and the participants attending online, via Zoom.
In addition to this session, the nationwide celebration of INESC’s 40th anniversary includes two more events. Lisbon will host the session “The ability to create new technology-based companies”, and Coimbra will close the cycle with “The relationship with the academic world”.
